Nana Dwemoh Benneh
Chief Executive Officer
Nana Dwemoh Benneh is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF). He was appointed in May 2024 and reports directly to the board and exercises operational direction of the Fund. Nana is tasked with driving the Fund to achieve its full mandate and potential, attracting the necessary funding and investments required to bridge Ghana’s $45 billion infrastructure investment gap by 2040 (GIH, 2020). His role is focused on driving critical projects, as distilled from the strategic guiding plans in national development plans.
Nana is widely regarded as a leading African Banker with a track performance for delivery, impact and performance across Africa and Europe. He has substantial executive and board leadership experience at major franchises both in Ghana and on the continent.
Prior to this current role, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s oldest merchant bank, UMB (Universal Merchant Bank). Nana rejuvenated this franchise, leveraging its heritage to drive performance. Deposits increased by over 50% during his stewardship and the corporate banking team relaunched the mining sector revenue line, winning major clients in the sector.
Before joining UMB, Nana Dwemoh served in Stanbic Ghana Ltd as Executive Director for Personal and Business Banking in October 2013. There he led the team in significantly growing market share and profitability for the Bank’s Personal and Business Banking franchise by over 200%, over the period.
From 1998 to 2013, Nana rotated through progressively higher ranks in the management and executive committees of Barclays Bank. His initial role was on the Barclays Plc International Business Leadership Program designed to equip Business Leaders with global and significant Pan African experience. Whilst with Barclays he had the opportunity to work in various management roles across several countries in Africa and the UK. This included an appointment as Head of Retail in Uganda, a senior executive committee (EXCO) role for the Barclays Uganda franchise, the East Africa Regional Sales Manager, Director of the SME Local Business Segment for Barclays Africa based in Johannesburg, South Africa and as Sales Director for International Trade and Cash Solutions Barclays PLC, London. In 2007, Nana returned to Barclays Bank Ghana as the Consumer Banking Director and is credited with consolidating the gains in the Bank’s consumer banking business post the Bank’s rapid expansion of the franchise that was undertaken between 2006 and 2007.
Nana earned a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Ghana and an Executive MBA from London Business School.
